Avicanna Launches its Clinically Backed CBD Derma-cosmetics Brand, Pura H&W, in the United States in Partnership with Red White and Bloom

The THC-Free, CBD derma-cosmetic brand is the first known CBD skincare line to be clinically tested and commercialized across four international markets

The initial launch of Pura H&W will include seven SKUs of proprietary products that will be available through e-commerce as well as cannabis and non-cannabis specific retailers

TORONTO, (December 22, 2021) – Avicanna Inc. (“Avicanna” or the “Company“) (TSX: AVCN) (OTCQX: AVCNF) (FSE: 0NN) a biopharmaceutical company focused on the development, manufacturing and commercialization of plant-derived cannabinoid-based pharmaceuticals, is pleased to announce the brand launch and commercialization of its proprietary and clinically backed derma-cosmetics brand, Pura H&W, through its exclusive partnership with Red White and Bloom (CSE: RWB).

This marks the fourth country in which Avicanna’s derma-cosmetic products branded as Pura H&W or Pura Earth have commercialized, including Colombia and Ecuador as well as Canada where the products are available through medical and adult use channels.

“This marks the first major market for the brand where the products will be accessible to consumers over the counter and nationwide. We are optimistic about the launch of Pura in the United States where we believe the clinically-backed and functional products will be highly differentiated and well supported by our strategic partners Red White and Bloom and their US commercial infrastructure,” commented Aras Azadian, CEO, Avicanna

The US beauty industry continues to grow rapidly and innovative trends, such as the introduction of cannabinoid-based cosmetics, are expected to provide a strong market opportunity. The launch of the proprietary and clinically-backed cannabidiol (“CBD”) product line will leverage the growing use of online platforms for shopping including Pura H&W’s own e-commerce platform https://purahw.com/  in addition to third party e-commerce channels, “big box” retailers and Red White and Bloom’s existing cannabis retail infrastructure across the United States.

“We are excited to launch the Pura brand in the US. As the first clinically tested line in CBD cosmetics, the reaction from our stores and retail partners has been exciting and this is strategically aligned with our goal to be the most recognized and responsible multi state operator (MSO) in the market. We look forward to scaling the launch quickly in both our physical and digital channels,” said Brad Rogers, CEO of Red White & Bloom.

Pura H&W U.S. Portfolio

The skincare line includes seven topical SKUs, three of which are available for purchase online now and for more that are expected to be available imminently.

Anti-Aging Serum: This emulsion gel combines CBD with stem cells from a rare variety of Swiss apple to deliver powerful ingredients to the skin. This refreshing and fast absorbing formula maximizes results for bouncy, glowing skin.

Cooling Body Gel: This go-to essential combines CBD & cannabigerol (“CBG”) with menthol, clove oil and other unique ingredients and natural polyphenols in an advanced emulsion formulation. This non-greasy formula is ideal for those moments when you need to cool and calm areas after physical activity.

Brightening Facial Oil: Made with a blend of natural oils including CBD, Marula, Squalene, Pomegranate and Rosehip, this silky-smooth formula leaves skin looking dewy and revitalized. Light notes of vanilla and limonene refresh the senses.

Anti-Aging Cream: Keeping the skin moisturized and locking in hydration, helps against environmental and natural stressors, and visibly enhances texture. This luxurious combination of CBD and Japanese cedar bud extract floods the skin with moisture to visibly improve natural lifting, toning and smoothing effects.

Intensive Moisturizing Cream: With the hustle and bustle of everyday life, the skin is constantly under assault by stress, pollution, and the environment. These factors can trigger extreme effects which may include the appearance of redness and flaking. This rich combination of CBD and colloidal oatmeal helps soothe extremely dry skin.

Clear Skin Gel: Skin problems due to routine breakouts affect almost all age groups and can occur when hair follicles become blocked by excess oil or dead skin cells. This formulation combining CBD with rosemary extract, tea tree oil and other key ingredients helps to remove oil and provide fresher looking skin.

Skin Protecting Face Lotion (Night): Our overnight cream combines CBD, pro-retinol, and vitamin E, which work together to hydrate the skin while you rest. This smooth formulation helps to boost your skin’s radiance and reduces visible signs of aging.

Clinical Studies

Three cosmetic clinical studies were completed on Avicanna’s [above noted] formulations targeting cosmetic factors associated with aging, acne-prone skin, and eczema-prone skin. The successfully completed studies involved 156 patients that were tested for safety and specific derma-cosmetic endpoints, including hydration and excess oil production. All three studies achieved positive results in the endpoints with no adverse effects, making Pura H&W one of the only cannabinoid consumer lines with human safety and efficacy data. Avicanna Files a Patent to Protect its Advanced Oral Cannabinoid Platform and its Applications for Neurological Diseases

Avicanna Files a Patent to Protect its Advanced Oral Cannabinoid Platform and its Applications for Neurological Diseases

Proprietary formulations include a range of liquids, capsules, powders, and controlled release tablets utilizing Avicanna’s self-emulsifying drug delivery systems (SEDDS) technology

The advanced formulations offer enhanced stability, bioavailability and controlled release of cannabinoids including (CBD, THC, CBG, CBN and THCv)

Avicanna intends to utilize the technology in its medical and pharmaceutical products and develop these formulations for treatment of neurological diseases and disorders

TORONTO, Dec. 06, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Avicanna Inc. (“Avicanna” or the “Company“) (TSX: AVCN) (OTCQX: AVCNF) (FSE: 0NN) a biopharmaceutical company focused on the development, manufacturing and commercialization of plant-derived cannabinoid-based pharmaceuticals is pleased to announce that it has filed a provisional patent application in the United States Patent and Trademark Office for a novel oral cannabinoid technology (the “Formulation Candidates”), which is intended to be commercialized globally for medical and pharmaceutical applications including treatment of various neurological diseases and disorders.

Oral administration of cannabinoids is the most convenient route for non-invasive drug delivery. However, due to the highly lipophilic nature and poor water-solubility of cannabinoids the elementary formulations currently available on the market generally have poor bioavailability and lack consistent drug delivery. Avicanna’s proprietary compositions have been specifically designed to alter the hydrophobic nature of cannabinoids, resulting in enhanced drug solubility which leads to better absorption and bioavailability either sublingually or orally, thereby increasing efficacy of cannabinoids.

“Our novel formulations overcome the current limitations of cannabinoid finished products in the market today and offer enhanced absorption of varying cannabinoid profiles with controlled delivery. We expect this will yield better patient outcomes and clinical results,” stated Dr. Frantz Le Devedec, Executive Vice President of Research and Product Development at Avicanna.

The patent application entitled “Oral cannabinoid compositions and methods of treating neurological diseases and disorders” claims formulations that have been developed through Avicanna’s R&D platform utilizing the company’s proprietary self-emulsifying drug delivery systems (SEDDS) technology and include a range of drug delivery formats with varying release and absorption profiles including:

Sustained and controlled release tablets – designed for linear release of the drug over time and thereby maximizing pharmacological properties and reducing side effects particular to cannabinoids.

Oral capsules c self-emulsifying cannabinoid technology designed to enhance absorption through a fast and effective dispersion mechanism.

Sublingual tablets – designed to provide rapid absorption of cannabinoids through the sublingual membrane to reduce first pass metabolism and provide a solution for acute symptom management and

Water-soluble formulations – nano-emulsion technology designed for instant dispersion and dissolution of cannabinoids which can be utilized for convenient titration in drug delivery and beverages.

“This patent submission is another example of our drug delivery platforms used to develop industry leading products as we continue to innovate and lead the path with advanced, standardized and evidenced based cannabinoid solutions. We are optimistic about the potential of these formulations across several of our commercial and clinical platforms globally,” stated Aras Azadian, Chief Executive Officer of Avicanna.

Avicanna intends to conduct further pre-clinical studies in the coming months in order to formalize this provisional application and will incorporate the technology into its clinical pipeline in 2022. If granted, this patent application will provide Avicanna with protection on the use of the Formulation Candidates for neurological diseases, alone or in combination with other therapies.

Avicanna´s subsidiary obtains Good Agricultural and Collection Practices (“GACP”) Certification in Colombia

  • The certification will allow the Company’s Aureus-branded raw material business with sales in 11 countries to include low cost and sustainable cannabis biomass for sale and export to the global marketplace
  • The GACP certification for herbal starting materials of the European Medicines Agency is a pre-requisite for GMP extraction and a requirement for export of cannabis biomass into Europe.

TORONTO, November 4, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE)Avicanna Inc. (“Avicanna” or the “Company) (TSX: AVCN) (OTCQX: AVCNF) (FSE: 0NN), a biopharmaceutical company focused on the development, manufacturing and commercialization of plant-derived cannabinoid-based products, is pleased to announce that its majority owned Colombian subsidiary, Santa Marta Golden Hemp S.A.S. (“SMGH”) has met global conformity standards of Good Agricultural and Collection Practices (“GACP”), an international guide set forth by the European Medicines Agency for starting materials of herbal origin for its 360,000 square foot cultivation project in Santa Marta, Colombia. The certification will allow for the expansion of the Company’s raw materials supply business to include organic and now GACP certified dried flower and biomass at a global level.

The Aureus Santa Marta brand, which includes a range of cannabinoids and standardized genetics offerings, has been successfully exported into 11 countries and, with this recent milestone, will include cannabis flower and biomass offerings to the Company’s partners and global marketplace. The GACP certification also acts as a pre-requisite for European GMP extraction certification, which the Company intends to also attain in 2022.

The strategic timing of the certification is further supported by the recent progressive legislation in Colombia towards the cannabis industry where, pursuant to Decree 811 of 2021, the export of cannabis flower and biomass is expected be permitted.

The Company’s cultivation infrastructure in Santa Marta, Colombia has potential output of 30,000 kg of biomass per year where the company has been commercially cultivating CBD, CBG and THC dominant cultivars for the past few years. This certification completes the company’s objective of establishing a low cost, sustainable and standardized supply chain business with global standards including GACP and USDA National Organic Program organic certifications.

Lucas Nosiglia, President of Avicanna LATAM commented: “This achievement adds to our 3 of years of optimization, the ideal climate conditions and robust genetics of our cultivation practices which combined further fortify the clear competitive advantages of our global raw material business unit. Coupled with the new regulatory framework in Colombia which would authorize the export of flower; we will now deliver GACP and organic certified flower from our greenhouse and outdoor modalities to the global market.”

To the knowledge of the Company, it carries out its operations in compliance with all applicable laws in the jurisdictions in which it operates.
